While June 1 marks the official start of the Atlantic hurricane season, it is difficult to become to excited until the first sign of oceanic action. Well, it is here. The first tropical depression of 2006 has formed and has the potential of emerging into the first named storm of the year today (Alberto).
With the Atlantic significantly colder now than last year at this time, it is unlikely that the depression will capture the necessary energy to form into a significant storm.

Release the Hounds! - First Tropical Depression of 2006 Forms
While June 1 marks the official start of the Atlantic hurricane season, it is difficult to become to excited until the first sign of oceanic action. Well, it is here. The first tropical depression of 2006 has formed and has the potential of emerging into the first named storm of the year today (Alberto).

Thanks for sharing your first-hand experience. We have had some thunderstorms for the last day, but so far they have been dull. I ran outside to check the cloud action when my friend's kids came in excitedly describing some cloud movement, but they were just fast moving clouds, no rotation.
